About learn-mcp

learn-mcp
Focused interactive tutor for the Model Context Protocol
learn-mcp is an interactive tutor skill from the AI Engineering from Scratch project for the Model Context Protocol path. It teaches MCP one lesson per invocation. Each lesson asks the learner to inspect a real request and response, predict what a boundary will do, run a lab or trace it by hand, and record a checkpoint before moving on. You can start the path or resume it where you stopped. The skill is careful to keep the invocation syntax with the host, so the same route is started as learn-mcp in Codex, as a slash command in Claude Code, or in plain language in other compatible hosts, and it does not present one host's syntax as a protocol rule. Before choosing a lesson, it reads the route, so the lesson fits where you are in the path. It suits engineers who want to understand how MCP clients and servers exchange messages by working through the requests themselves. Because the tutor works one lesson at a time, plan each session around its checkpoint and keep the lab files in your own project. The skill passes Gen Agent Trust Hub, Socket and Snyk on skills.sh. Install it with npx skills add https://github.com/rohitg00/ai-engineering-from-scratch --skill learn-mcp.
