About openspec-new-change

openspec-new-change
Start a new OpenSpec change using the experimental artifact workflow
openspec-new-change is an agent skill from the OpenSpec project for starting a new change with the experimental artifact-driven workflow. Use it when you want to create a new feature, a fix or a modification with a structured set of artifacts, rather than starting in code. The change is created as an OpenSpec change folder that holds its artifacts, so the work is planned and documented before the implementation begins. It runs the same guards as the other OpenSpec skills. Before creating anything, it confirms the project has an OpenSpec root by reading the list command, because creating a change is a write and the command would otherwise create an openspec folder as a side effect. If the project is not set up, the skill stops and asks how to proceed, and if the project uses OpenSpec through a store the machine cannot resolve, it reports that error and does not continue. When the work lives in a registered store, the skill selects it and keeps the store id for the whole workflow. The skill is for developers who keep a spec-first habit and want each change planned in its own folder. Install it with npx skills add https://github.com/fission-ai/openspec --skill openspec-new-change.
